Baan Saen Fang, Chiang Mai is a rare hidden architectural gem consisting of 4 distinct northern style wooden lodge in the midst of local structures and flanked by Wat Saen Fang.
A 14th century temple was awaken from slumber after almost 70 years. The temple whose chedi and the ubosot on the west side of the compound is late 19th century Burmese, built during the Burmese occupation of Chiang Mai. The viharn is in the Lanna style and had served as the Royal Hall of Chao Kawilorot; the Sixth Chao Luang or monarchy of northern Thailand.
Skillfully crafted and designed with attention to minute details by Prof. Ajarn Jullatat Kittibutr; a highly revered and an award-winning Thailand National Artist pertaining to contemporary architectural design in 2004 and also ASA award (Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage) who emphasizes the significance of harmonizing local culture and way of life with architecture, infusing the very unique and distinct elements and traits of northerners such as humility, warmth, friendliness and nature into the final masterpiece of architectural restoration known as Baan Saenfang which will serve as a monument of local pride for future Lanna generations.
Majestically situated on Thapae Soi 2 in Chang Moi district of Chiang Mai, a mere casual acquaintance of Baan Saenfang will undoubtedly deluge one's senses of the building's unpretentious temperament. Crowned with rich earthenware, the roofing of each villa slopes at the perfect angle aided by the traditional Siamese house open understructure to optimize and perpetuate the natural flow of breeze. It is simple yet profound reflecting precisely the local's fundamental attributes.
